For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13
This summer I had my DNA done for genealogy research. The raw DNA numbers are pages after pages, row after row, of numbers that are meaningless to me. Yet to the expert in that field it is a wealth of information. Those numbers are unique to me. Everyone has DNA that is unique to them.
Some products are stamped with "Made in America" or another nation. Many products have serial numbers that mark the item. Vehicles have "VIN" Vehicle Identification Numbers stamped on each and every one of the millions of vehicles all over the world.
We are much more unique than products or vehicles. According to scripture God even knows the very number of the hairs on your head (Mat. 10:30). Why would it surprise people to know that a God who went through so much trouble to create and individually mark us also cares for us?
Into this broken world we are born. Uniquely made there is no way that a Creator would allow His creation to remain broken. We value our belongings, things like houses, cars, even our electronic gadgets. When something we prize is not working correctly we often worry and suffer until it is repaired and functioning correctly again. How much more will God fix and restore His broken creation and children?
John 3:16 in the Bible tells us that God prizes us so much He sent His son Jesus to set things right again. Through Jesus and His sacrifice on a cross all the broken people of the earth can be repaired. We can function again because our sins were covered and our separation from God was healed and restored through Jesus.
We are marked by God. It goes beyond DNA and into the very essence of our being. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Redeemer there is a spiritual stamp put upon us, forever marking us individually as born again, restored, recovered, spiritually remade children of God and heirs with Jesus and God's Kingdom.
Life can make us feel small and inconsequential. Sickness, disease, pain, suffering of all sorts can make us think that we are forgotten by a God who does not care about us. Yet nothing is further from the truth. We are both collectively and individually born into this world for the sole purpose of coming to know our Creator and having a relationship with Him. He sent Jesus to make this possible. Though we may feel alone, those who ask Jesus into their hearts will find the Creator is not only near them, but with them in a friendship He desired with us from the day He created us.
You are uniquely made by a God who is awesome beyond our comprehension. Stamped with an individuality that even scientists can read and measure, we have a Lord who desires fellowship with us and a relationship with us. He loves His creation, and we are functioning correctly when we return that love.
Prayer: Dear Lord, life gets complicated and frustrating and in our pain, we sometimes lose sight of the destiny You have in store for us. Uniquely made and uniquely marked we are Yours' and You are ours' as we struggle through life with both its pleasure and pain. Wonderfully created by You we praise You Lord for all that You have done and all You are yet to do in our lives. Amen.
