Prayer Changes Things

“Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth.” Psalm 54:2 (NIV)

What if every time anyone in the world prayed they received a gold coin? How do you think that might change the world? I can imagine buses, trains, and airplanes being delayed because their drivers, conductors, and pilots were busy praying, but no one would mind because they too would be praying to get more gold.

Prayer brings benefits greater than gold. For those who are suffering, all the gold in the world is worthless because it doesn’t remove their pain. However, prayer can bring us peace, comfort, and strength in spite of our suffering. Prayer gives us power.

You cannot be connected with the Almighty God in prayer without being strengthened within. The power of God uses the conduit of prayer to empower us no matter what we are facing. It doesn’t matter how weak we are physically, or how little strength we appear to have, when we are tuned into prayer, conversing with the awesome God of the universe, we become powerful within.

Show me a little grandmother who appears weak and fragile on the outside, yet is as they say “prayed up”, and I will show you a spiritual powerhouse that you better not mess with because she is tuned into God. Better to offend a street gang member than an elderly lady plugged into God’s awesome power through prayer.

We are only as weak as our prayer lives. As they say: “little prayer little power, much prayer much power”. That is true and we should apply it to our lives. Those of us who suffer from affliction or any type of weakness or pain need the power that prayer brings. And it is much better than silver or gold.

Prayer: Dear Lord, fill us with Your presence and power. Take our weakness and lift us up in Your strength. Amen.
