“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Revelation 22:12-13 ESV)
Our little dog always knows when we are expecting company. Either he senses a change in us, or he has a good sense of intuition, whichever the case, he watches the door, he climbs the couch and looks out the window, and he glances at us wanting to know when our visitors will arrive.
Such expectancy is what we need as Christians awaiting the return of our Lord. Jesus encompasses the Good News, the Gospel. He saved us, He secures us, He loves and guides us in life, and when He returns all our hopes and joys will be realized in an eternity of bliss and glory in His presence. There will be no more pain, no more suffering, disease and illness will be long forgotten.
It would be very hard to reconcile our endless sufferings here if we did not have hope of endless joy there. Who could bear the thought of endless suffering, non-stop pain, and continued weeping? Jesus saves us from a dark eternity, and gives us comfort through His Spirit while we are facing the trials of this life.
When our visitors finally arrive our little dog can hardly contain his joy and enthusiasm, clamouring for their attention, hopping and jumping around, barking with pleasure. How ought we to be filled with joy, enthusiasm, and excitement as we look forward to the arrival of our Lord? Even so, come quickly Jesus, we long for Your return!
Dear Lord, we expectantly look forward to Your return. Keep us filled with joy and hope as we live each day, knowing that better things are coming with Your arrival. Amen
