Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 1 Peter 3:8-11 (KJV)
A kind word or an act of kindness can encourage a hurting, suffering, lonely soul. It is easy to forget that there are hurting people all around us. We can get so busy, and our lives can become so complex that we hardly have time for anyone. Yet making room for others, and uplifting others is part of the ministry of every Christian.
1Jo 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
1Jo 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. (KJV)
Love and kindness, compassion and mercy, those words should guide our thoughts and actions toward others. It is easy to condemn, and easy to criticize, but our attitude should follow after Christ, and through Him we can love and be compassionate.
Christians are supposed to be the most compassionate people. Our Lord was compassionate, giving everything He had to mankind. Love and compassion must mark our steps in this world, or we have nothing to offer the lost.
Dear Lord, help us to be a compassionate people, walking in Your footsteps. Amen.
