God Never Forgets Our Suffering

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. (Isaiah 60:1 NIV)

Today I saw a flock of geese flying overhead. I wondered what they were doing in Ohio in the heart of winter, as most ponds and watercourses are frozen. They were headed south, so maybe they have had enough of our bitterly cold temperatures. I thought to myself that those geese are survivors, living outdoors in such weather.

I like to watch TV shows where people face overwhelming odds and yet survive. There is a TV show where they drop a man by helicopter into hostile environments, such as a vast jungle, bitterly cold northern region, or incredibly hot desert, and the man endures, he survives these extreme circumstances.

Those with chronic illnesses and afflictions face many difficult circumstances. Sometimes the “hostile environment” is their very body as it seems determined to make survival difficult.

Also those around us can make our environment feel hostile as we must deal with their skepticism about the degree of our suffering, and deal with their lack of understanding regarding our disabling condition.

They may add to our burdens by making light of our circumstances and afflictions, and increase our hardship by applying guilt to our situation when we do not live up to their ideas of what we can or should be doing.

There is one who knows and understands everything we are going through. He is intimately acquainted with the degree of our suffering and He offers us comfort through the Holy Spirit.

God may have allowed us to face a difficult environment and challenging circumstances, but we can rise up and survive our challenges through His love, power, and spirit, by His presence within us. Through Him we survive and overcome no matter the environment we find ourselves in.

Prayer: Thank You Lord for helping us to survive hard circumstances and numerous challenges. Amen.
