Luk 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (KJV)
Jesus took a chance on humanity. He took the risk that His sacrifice would bring many people to God. Jesus suffered terribly and died on the chance that people would have faith in Him, yet it must have been tempting at times for Him to think that, with the lack of faith all around Him, people would never place full trust and confidence in God. I for one am glad Jesus took a chance on humanity.
Having faith is no easy thing. Some people seem to believe that faith is an emotional state that you can work yourself up to. Others tend to think that having faith is simply a creed or doctrine to put trust in. Yet the truth is that faith has a subject, a person, an Individual that our faith is directed toward, and His name is Jesus.
Rom 3:22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: (ESV)
Gal 3:22 But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. (ESV)
Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. (KJV)
You should ask yourself, the next time a preacher mentions faith, what is the source and who is the reason for my faith? Is faith a wispy substance that one draws from the air? Does it depend upon human whims and emotions? Is it fickle, changing with the weather? No, faith is a solid spiritual force that is invested in the Christian through the Spirit of God. It is part of the fruit of the Spirit:
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (KJV)
It is a not an ethereal feeling or whimsical emotion or strange state of mind you have to invoke like some eastern guru, but rather a real presence and power focused upon and derived from and made possible by God. It is activated by our trust in God, our belief in His word, and confidence in the Person of Christ Jesus. Faith is a power that is necessary for every Christian, we are responsible to believe, but He is responsible for the manifestation of working the fruit of faith in our lives. We trust, He does the action and brings about the result. Trusting is no small thing, sometimes it is incredibly hard when circumstances and naysayer are surrounding us with the idea that trusting God is folly, but the Christian knows from experience and the witness of the Holy Spirit and the record of the Bible that God can be trusted, no matter what obstacles lie before us, no matter what circumstances whisper in our ears.
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (KJV)
Thank You Lord for proving time and again that our faith in You is not in vain. Amen.
