Having Faith In The Unseen God

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

Are you worried, anxious, fearful, fretting over your health or something else? That is what faith is for. Faith is not for a smooth road free of obstacles and challenges. No, faith is made for the times you are feeling overwhelmed, distraught, and struggling to stay afloat.

I like the King James Version for the scripture above:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

The second part of that verse speaks of “evidence”. Those of us who have been Christians for a long time have plenty of experiences, lots of evidence of the Unseen God at work in our lives. And even though our God is not seen, His actions are seen everywhere. Just as the evidence of our faith is unseen, we know it is there because of the coming results.

If your faith is being tested--rejoice. Only the faithless and the problem-free person lives with untested faith. Believers live in a world where faith is tested, and proven, and rewarded. We believe in an Unseen God, trusting in Him to deliver on His promises, some of which we have not yet received. But experience proves the actions and involvements of an Unseen God very much at work in and through our lives and the lives of other believers.

Blessed are those who have believed and have not yet seen (John 20:29). You will have many opportunities to exercise your faith as a child of God. We live by faith, it is essential to who we are and how we live. Faith is made for us, for the weak, the hurting, the sick, the sinner in need of a loving and forgiving God. The world thinks we are ignorant fools for believing in an Unseen God, yet I see His fingerprints all over my life, how about you?

Dear Lord, help us to never forget that tests are there to help our faith grow, not to punish us or to bring us harm. Amen.
