The God of All Comfort

2Co 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
2Co 1:4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (ESV)

I don’t know about you, but there are many times in life when I need God’s comfort. There are times when plans are interrupted by tragedy, when hopes are dashed, when expectations fall short, in other words--when life happens.

Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (ESV)

God knew that we would have many trials in life.

Psa 34:18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psa 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. (ESV)

After several days or even weeks of sunny weather, we sometimes begin to think every day will be mild and wonderful and we start to expect such days. However, rainy days will come, stormy weather should be expected every bit as much as sunny days. We don’t like to think about suffering and hardship, but consider how much righteous Job endured, and how long Joseph spent unjustly imprisoned, his spirit pressed beneath the weight of circumstances. But God does not forget us, neither did he forget Job or Joseph. We may endure hardship, but comfort comes to the believer, for every believer has the Holy Spirit abiding within them.

Dear Lord, thank You for the Spirit of Comfort, for we often need His help and strength. Thank You Holy Spirit for abiding within us. Amen.
