Remembering God's Faithfulness During Hard Times

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Phil. 4:8)

There are times my fatigue is so bad that it feels like I am walking around with a heavy tire on top of my head, weighing me down and causing me to drag about. I have found that when my affliction is very bad, flaring up on me, that I must pay particular attention to what I’m reading, watching, and listening to.

Our afflictions can drain us and lead us easily into frustration and accompanying negativity. It is hard not to be negative when so much of our lives seem to be weighing against us. Yet it does not help to feed this negativity, for it can easily become full blown depression and lead us into hopelessness and despair. As if to add insult to injury, often when we are the weakest, we must fight the hardest.

Good music, good literature, positive movies, such things can help uplift us when we are down. Scripture tells us to focus upon good things. To consider God and His goodness and the many times He has pulled us through difficult circumstances can be one of the most positive things to think upon and consider. We may feel weighed down and oppressed by our afflictions, but if we will look up, if we will search for the light in the darkness, we will find our Lord has neither left us nor forsaken us in our affliction, and that is good indeed.

Prayer: Dear Lord, sometimes we feel very weighed down by life and our afflictions, please lift us up, and help us to stay positive. Amen.
